To save your family in The Blood of Dawnwalker, reach a rescue finale within the 30-day deadline and keep Esme alive through the prologue. You can defeat Brencis alone, side with Lacra or Crake, or accept his bargain. Separate early conclusions let Coen leave Vale Sangora, remain in the Home Sweet Home nightmare, or defeat both of Brencis’s prologue forms. Running out of time kills the family but lets you continue playing.

Ending routes and the 7-versus-8 count

Goal or routeKey requirementUseful save point
Solo victory / The Folk HeroDefeat Brencis without Lacra or Crake’s assistanceBefore entering the castle or accepting the parley
Lacra / The PatricideComplete her route to Midnight ReckoningBefore committing to the final Lacra objective
Crake / The KnyazmakerProgress the Manumits to Rise at DawnBefore launching the final allied operation
Bargain / The TurncoatAccept Brencis’s deal and betray the allies required by that routeBefore the deal conversation
Leave / A Hero They DeserveReach the western valley exit with night traversalBefore confirming departure
Nightmare / Together ForeverRemain through four Home Sweet Home loopsBefore the fourth loop completes
Prologue victoryDefeat regular Brencis and his Grotesque Ascendant formBefore the prologue confrontation
Deadline failureLet the 30-day limit expireSeparate save before passing the remaining time

The sources use different counting conventions. PowerPyx lists seven outcomes including deadline failure, while PC Gamer also covers prologue victory. Use the actual route and achievement names rather than treating either headline count as an official taxonomy.

For an achievement run, keep two checklists: which final route you completed and which earlier character outcomes your save contains. A new epilogue detail does not necessarily mean a separate achievement route. This distinction also makes it easier to compare two saves without replaying a whole campaign for one changed character scene.

Save the family and understand the deadline

Protect Esme first by completing Withering Away correctly. After the prologue, preserve enough time for the finale you want instead of counting only the trip to the castle. Read the hourglass costs of allied objectives before spending your remaining segments on upgrades.

When the deadline expires, the family dies and the game continues. If your goal is the timely rescue achievement, reload a save from before expiry. If your goal is simply to explore or finish a different confrontation, you can continue from that altered world state.

Our recommendation is a manual checkpoint before the final route commitment with a visible time margin. Record the current day, active finale quest and available allies in the save name or a separate note. A generic “before boss” label is less useful when you later need to distinguish preparation from an already committed route.

Defeat Brencis alone or accept his bargain

For a solo castle approach, night traversal can get Coen over the wall. A daytime access route involves Father Florin’s support. Alternatively, the parley after defeating the three Court leaders can lead toward a solo confrontation or Brencis’s offer.

The bargain route includes A Deal with the Devil: defeat Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe, reach the invitation, and follow the agreement toward marking the Manumit hideout. Use the quest-specific parley walkthrough for that sequence. Keep a save before selecting an attack or agreement.

For planning, decide whether you want the rescue result with Brencis alive or a victory over him. That is the central difference between these options. Becoming attached to a particular ally does not make the bargain equivalent to defeating the regime; look at who you are being asked to sacrifice before confirming.

Lacra and Crake: prepare the ally route first

Lacra’s chain progresses through A Friend Like This, Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots and onward to Midnight Reckoning. Check the available finale objective before entering the castle on a different route. PowerPyx’s Midnight Reckoning walkthrough identifies the final allied mission.

Crake’s route follows the Manumit questline toward Rise at Dawn and Fall Before Dusk. The Rise at Dawn walkthrough documents the start of that operation. Prepare both allies before the shared late-game save if comparing their endings is your priority.

Our practical recommendation is to finish one desired ally chain first, then inspect how much time remains before adding another. A complete alternate route is a larger commitment than choosing a different final dialogue line. The quest hub and time guide help keep those commitments separate.

Early conclusions: valley exit, nightmare and prologue victory

Valley exit: travel to the broken-bridge route in western Briar Sloughs near Coward’s Path at night. PC Gamer’s documented approach uses Corruption level 11 and Shadow Dweller rank two to cross the gap. Save before confirming departure if you still want to rescue the family on another branch.

Nightmare: Home Sweet Home begins at the upper study door in Silts Tower. Continuing through four dream cycles leads to Together Forever. To pursue escape instead, investigate the well when the sequence points you toward it; keep the pre-fourth-cycle save for comparing these outcomes.

Prologue victory: beating normal Brencis leads to a second fight against his Grotesque Ascendant form. Winning only the first duel is not the complete early-ending requirement. Keep this attempt separate from your late-game finale saves because those saves cannot return you to the prologue.

Our recommendation is to pursue these as deliberate branch experiments. Departure and the nightmare are useful short alternatives to compare from nearby saves. The prologue fight demands a much earlier checkpoint, so it belongs in the plan before starting a normal campaign, not as a last-minute option outside the final castle.

A save plan for comparing endings

  1. Preserve the prologue confrontation save if testing the early victory.
  2. Keep a late-game preparation save before any finale commitment, with enough time for the ally chains you want.
  3. Keep individual saves before the parley, allied launch, valley departure and fourth nightmare loop.
  4. Use a separate slot for deadline expiry so it does not overwrite the family-rescue state.

This plan groups saves by irreversible action rather than an arbitrary day number. It also protects against assuming that a save inside the final assault still contains every earlier route. Before reloading, match the slot to the condition you want to change.

Sources and correction note

Reviewed October 10, 2026 against the named guides. The save plan and route comparison are editorial recommendations, not a claim of personally testing every ending. This revision replaces invented faction epilogues, corrects the nightmare and prologue triggers, and clarifies continued play after deadline expiry.
