The Blood of Dawnwalker Quests and Quest Order
Find every prologue quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, follow a safe quest order, compare time costs and fail states, and open focused walkthroughs.
On this page+
The safest The Blood of Dawnwalker quest order is to finish Withering Away before optional errands, complete any prologue side quest you care about before Sacred Covenant, and read every clock or hourglass before committing time. The prologue is the only part of this route where a large group of quests disappears together. After it, Court activities and story lines open across Laslea, so use this page as the quest database and open a focused walkthrough only when a step, choice, or bug stops you.
How to read the quest database
A clock marks an objective that can expire, while an hourglass shows an action that spends narrative time. Walking, searching, fighting, and opening ordinary map markers do not continuously drain the 30-day limit. The commitment happens when the game displays a cost or advances a quest state, so check the tracker before confirming a conversation or interaction.
The tables below separate main quests from optional work and show only facts reviewed for this release. “Before Sacred Covenant” means the side quest belongs to the disappearing prologue window; it does not mean you must complete every listed activity. Choose the outcomes and rewards that matter to your run, then allow the rest to close naturally.
Prologue main quests in order
| Order | Quest | Role | Important note | Walkthrough |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | All Good Things | Opening main quest | Introduces Laslea and Coen’s family | Planned |
| 2 | Withering Away | Timed main quest | Prepare Esme’s medicine with hot water and three spoonfuls of herbs | Open guide |
| 3 | Like Father, Like Son | Main quest | Continue the family route after securing the medicine | Planned |
| 4 | Sacred Covenant | Prologue cutoff | Finish wanted side quests before committing to this transition | Open guide |
| 5 | Bad Blood | Main quest | Drives the prologue toward Coen’s transformation | Planned |
| 6 | Smoke and Ashes | Final prologue main quest | Includes one- and seven-segment actions before the open world | Open guide |
Withering Away deserves the first protected slot because failure changes Esme’s outcome. Its optional Page-Turner scene also spends time, so take that branch only when it matches your priorities. Smoke and Ashes is much later in the sequence and ends the prologue; its large displayed cost is part of the transition, not a reason to abandon the quest.
Prologue side quests and fail states
| Quest | Starting lead | Time or cutoff | Current guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Live Bait | Laslea opening route | Prologue-only | Planned |
| Someone Needs a Lesson | Laslea resident lead | Prologue-only | Planned |
| Dead Drop | Village route | Prologue-only | Planned |
| Disturbed | Laslea activity | Prologue-only | Planned |
| Deep Down | Gavril at Gavril’s Farm | 1 segment; before Sacred Covenant | Open guide |
| Enter Not | Ruined-house lead | Prologue-only | Planned |
| Blasphemy | Gremla’s shed in Laslea | 1 segment; before Sacred Covenant | Open guide |
| On the Run | Iorgu at his house | 1 segment; before Sacred Covenant | Open guide |
| If a Tree Falls in a Forest… | Laslea region lead | Prologue-only | Planned |
| Bandits’ Treasure Map: Laslea Glen | Treasure-map activity | Prologue-only | Planned |
Deep Down is the combat-heavy choice in the first published batch: it sends Coen through the peat bogs, an underground route, and a guarded exit. On the Run is lighter and choice-driven, following Iorgu’s missing pig through Kuno’s camp. Both must be resolved before Sacred Covenant if you want their rewards and outcomes in this playthrough.
A safe prologue quest order
First, advance Withering Away until Esme’s medicine is secure. Next, collect nearby leads without spending a segment immediately; this lets you compare the reward, route, and cutoff before deciding. Use short Laslea loops for side quests, then return to the main path when the remaining optional work is worth less to you than moving the story forward.
Deep Down costs one segment when Coen discovers Lazar, not merely when he walks into the bog. On the Run also uses one segment and can be resolved with either a confrontation or a reference to Brencis before you recover the pig. Keep Page-Turner, shrine purchases with a displayed cost, and other optional commitments in the same budget rather than treating each as free.
Before Sacred Covenant, make a manual save if you want the option to test a different prologue route. Do not use the save as a demand to complete everything: the game is built around missed stories and consequences. The 30-day time-system guide explains the difference between exploration and a time-spending action in more detail.
What changes after the prologue
The published routes below answer different post-prologue problems. Choose the quest matching your current objective before spending time on another branch.
| Quest | Use this walkthrough for | Useful checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| The Heart Wants What It Wants | Find the ring and choose Ocha’s future | Save before choosing the ritual or combat route |
| Hive and Seek | Pass the silver-water cave and recover Isbrand’s Plate | Search the right-hand chest before speaking to Isbrand |
| Forge It Anew | Collect three sword shards, the hilt, and imbue St. Mihai’s sword | Check component names; a restored blade still needs the ritual |
After Smoke and Ashes, the wider map and Court activities become the main structure. Actions against Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe raise pressure on their parts of the Court, eventually opening the confrontations that lead toward Brencis. Main and side stories can be approached in different orders, although an objective may become timed after you start it.
Use the journal icons rather than assuming every discovered quest is already counting down. Avoid starting several clock-marked objectives at once, and connect each active quest to a shrine, tower, merchant, or nearby activity on the map and locations page. This protects the 30-day budget without turning the open world into a rigid checklist.
Hotfix 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 quest status
Hotfix 1.0.4, released September 9, fixed a cave blocker in Deep Down and an infinite loading problem while progressing On the Run. It also made the rag investigation optional in Smoke and Ashes. The same notes list a progression fix for The Heart Wants What It Wants and an early-ending issue in one Hive and Seek solution. They do not certify every choice described in a walkthrough.
If a quest objective appears stuck, confirm that the game is updated to the latest build, reload a save from before the transition, and compare the exact objective with the relevant guide. Hotfix 1.0.5 concerns shader compilation. It is not evidence that a quest route was personally tested or that every blocker has disappeared.
Sources and update note
The time-system and open-world framing comes from the official Dawnwalker overview. Prologue planning uses PC Gamer’s route guide; detailed choices and component locations are cited on their own walkthroughs, while the bug status comes from the official Hotfix 1.0.4 notes and Hotfix 1.0.5 notes. This hub was reviewed on October 10, 2026. The route priorities are editorial recommendations; source review does not claim hands-on testing.
