The Blood of Dawnwalker Sacred Covenant Walkthrough
Finish Sacred Covenant in The Blood of Dawnwalker: protect Esme, resolve Gremla’s banner, complete missable quests, and sit with your family at Blood Mass.
On this page+
Before advancing Sacred Covenant in The Blood of Dawnwalker, finish the prologue errands you want, give Esme the correct medicine, and resolve Blasphemy if you want to save Gremla. When ready, wait for Blood Mass through Pieter or the remaining activities, speak to the villagers in the chapel, and sit beside Pieter and Esme to continue. Treat the Mass as the cutoff for unfinished opening quests and keep a manual save before committing.
Sacred Covenant start and progression checkpoints
| Checkpoint | What matters |
|---|---|
| Start | After Like Father, Like Son, or automatically when the opening time runs out |
| Before Mass | Finish the optional prologue outcomes you care about |
| Esme | Correct medicine in Withering Away protects her from the immediate fatal outcome |
| Gremla | The Blasphemy banner decision determines what appears over the altar |
| Inside the chapel | Optional conversations, then sit beside the family |
| Reported quest reward | 250 XP |
| Next story stage | Continue the prologue toward Bad Blood |
These objectives and the family interaction are documented in PowerPyx’s Sacred Covenant walkthrough. Use the journal and the actual seating prompt as your immediate instructions. There is no reason to rehearse an invented sermon dialogue sequence before approaching the family.
For planning, separate the quest becoming available from choosing to pass the remaining time. Seeing Sacred Covenant in the journal is your cue to review outstanding errands. It is not an instruction to abandon the errands you already selected and rush directly into the ceremony.
What to complete before Blood Mass
| Your priority | Finish or check | Useful walkthrough |
|---|---|---|
| Protect Esme | Hot water and three spoonfuls of herbs, then give the medicine | Withering Away |
| Save Gremla | Recover the stolen banner and report to her | Blasphemy |
| Resolve Lazar’s disappearance | Complete the farm and underground route | Deep Down |
| Recover Iorgu’s pig | Finish the trail and Kuno choice | On the Run |
| Compare another opening route | Keep a save before spending the remaining time | Quest-order hub |
Our recommendation is to protect the family outcome first, then choose optional errands by the story or reward you actually want. Esme’s medicine and Gremla’s banner are especially useful checks because their consequences appear directly at the Mass. That makes them clearer priorities than trying to clear every map marker.
Check the completed quest state rather than whether you merely accepted the task. Finding herbs is not the same as delivering the correct medicine; identifying a thief is not the same as reporting the banner outcome. Finish the last interaction of each chosen errand before returning to Pieter.
Blasphemy spends one segment at the confrontation. Deep Down and On the Run also have their own segment commitments. Inspect your remaining budget before selecting another errand so the choice fits the opening route rather than relying on the broad 30-day campaign limit.
Pass the remaining time without losing your chosen errands
After Like Father, Like Son, you can use remaining time for selected activities or return to Pieter to wait for Mass. Before waiting, open the journal and check the tasks marked with a clock. Leave a manual save in a separate slot if you may want to change the opening route later.
The prologue has a tighter time window than the wider campaign. PC Gamer’s prologue route guide documents the clock and hourglass system and the limited opening budget. Walking around does not continuously consume a real-time countdown, but confirmed activities can advance the schedule.
If you have several unfinished errands, choose one based on its remaining step rather than its distance alone. A nearby conversation may still carry a segment cost, while a longer walk can be free exploration. The time-system guide explains how to read those two types of commitment.
Avoid spending an opening segment on an optional upgrade simply because you are standing at a shrine. Compare the upgrade with the quest outcome you would give up. This is a route-planning recommendation: it helps preserve a selected story result without insisting that every optional activity must be completed.
Talk to villagers, then sit beside Pieter and Esme
Once the Mass sequence is underway, speak with the villagers you want to hear from, including Anca, before using the family’s seating interaction. These are optional conversations around the main objective. When ready, sit in the pew beside Pieter and Esme to start the story scene.
If the objective still asks you to talk or sit, search the chapel seating area and the current marker. Do not wait for a particular invented courtyard character or timed sermon line. The reliable progression checkpoint is the interaction beside your family, followed by the cutscene.
Before sitting, use the altar as a visual check of the Blasphemy branch you selected. The tapestry decision changes what is displayed at Mass. It is an outcome of the earlier investigation, so adjust it from the earlier quest save if it differs from your intention.
Our suggested final pause is simple: confirm the chosen optional tasks are finished, note the family and banner branches, then sit. This gives you a clear record of what the ceremony is reflecting. It is more useful for replaying a choice than trying to assign hidden relationship points to every chapel conversation.
Esme, Gremla and the transition into Bad Blood
Esme’s immediate survival depends on whether she received the correct medicine. Use the Withering Away walkthrough for the actual recipe and delivery step. An unrelated dialogue preference during Mass cannot replace completing that quest correctly.
Gremla’s fate follows the earlier Blasphemy choice. Returning the banner and concealing its theft produce different altar scenes. Check the Blasphemy decision table before the ceremony if you want the precise reward-and-character trade-off.
Continue the story after the seating scene rather than searching the chapel for another optional rescue mechanic. Bad Blood and then Smoke and Ashes move the prologue toward the wider map. Keep the pre-Mass save separate from new saves after the transition.
Sources and correction note
Reviewed October 10, 2026 against the named mission and prologue guides. The checklist and save advice are editorial recommendations. This revision removes unsupported timed sermon choices and villager-survival claims, corrects Blasphemy’s start and cost, and replaces the personal-testing statement. Official patch notes describe their listed fixes; they do not verify every possible story branch.
