To complete Deep Down, speak to Gavril at his farm, follow Lazar’s trail from the peat bogs into the cave, inspect his body, then continue uphill through the ruins and defeat the Forgotten Guardian to reach the surface. The quest uses one time segment when you find Lazar and must be finished before Sacred Covenant. Hotfix 1.0.4 fixed the progression blocker that could leave Coen trapped in the cave.

Deep Down is longer and more dangerous than its one-segment cost suggests. Prepare a usable weapon and healing before dropping underground because the route leads to a compulsory guardian encounter. The segment is charged after the discovery below, so travelling to the bog and following the first clues does not by itself complete the time-spending step.

Start Deep Down at Gavril’s Farm

After All Good Things, find Gavril at his farm in Laslea Glen. He explains that his brother Lazar has not returned from collecting peat and mentions the two-wheeled cart Lazar took with him. Accept the search before moving too far through the prologue, because the quest disappears when Sacred Covenant closes this set of optional stories.

From the farm, follow the road northwest and cross the bridge toward the peat bogs. A shrine provides a useful landmark near the search area. Look for Lazar’s abandoned cart and the disturbed working ground beyond it; those clues move the objective from a broad search to a track you can follow.

Follow Lazar’s trail through the peat bogs

Activate Focus Mode near the cart and follow the footprints. A dropped basket, blood, and wolf tracks show that Lazar began running. Continue until the trail reaches the wolves near the opening in the ground; fight them if they block the approach or move past them carefully, then descend where Lazar’s footprints disappear.

The underground route initially has one clear direction. Follow the water, pass the supplies near the weak torch, and squeeze through the narrow gap. Continue beside the river until you find Lazar’s body. Inspecting this discovery advances the quest and spends its single time segment.

Lazar’s wounds indicate that the fall and wolves were not the final cause. You do not need to solve the full mystery to finish this quest, but you do need to keep moving: the way you entered is not the intended exit. Follow the cavern south and upward instead of repeatedly returning to the first drop.

Find the way out of the underground ruins

The rising passage leads from the natural cave into old ruins. Search deliberately, but do not let optional containers make the layout harder to read. The critical route continues through the halls toward a large circular chamber with a central sarcophagus and murals showing an earlier fight against the vrakhiri.

Looting the sarcophagus provides the Mireleaf Bracers, a useful early defensive item. Equip better armour and restore health before leaving the chamber. The exit corridor is guarded, so the bracers and other loot are preparation for the next step rather than the end of the quest.

Continue east through the long hall until the Forgotten Guardian blocks the route to daylight. The enemy uses a dangerous glowing twin attack that should be dodged rather than absorbed. Use a patient pattern: defend, create an opening with a well-timed block, land a short counter, then reset instead of extending an unsafe combination.

After the guardian falls, loot the Undead Warrior’s sword before taking the ramp to the surface. The exit is beyond the fight; there is no second puzzle or hidden switch required. Once outdoors, open the map and route back to Gavril’s Farm.

Return to Gavril and finish the quest

Tell Gavril what happened to Lazar. This completes Deep Down and awards the quest reward. Gavril may ask Coen to inform the elderman as a follow-up gesture, but that request is not required for the Deep Down completion state.

Because the quest is prologue-only, do not continue into Sacred Covenant expecting to return later. If you want the reward, the underground lore, or the early equipment, complete the conversation with Gavril before the cutoff. Return to the quest order database to decide which remaining Laslea activity fits your available segments.

Stuck in the Deep Down cave?

The official Hotfix 1.0.4 notes say that the issue trapping Coen in the Deep Down cave was fixed. On the current build, the intended route is forward: follow the underground river to Lazar, take the southern rising passage into the ruins, cross the circular burial chamber, and defeat the Forgotten Guardian to reach the ramp outside.

If the route still fails to update, confirm that the objective changed after inspecting Lazar’s body and that the game reports version 1.0.4 or later. Reload a save from before entering the underground area if geometry or the objective state remains broken. When reporting the problem, include your platform and exact objective text rather than only saying that the cave has no exit.

Sources and update note

Quest order, start conditions, time cost, objectives, and rewards were cross-checked against launch walkthrough research and rewritten as an original route. The cave status is confirmed by the official Hotfix 1.0.4 notes. This guide was reviewed for the September 9 patch on September 11, 2026; in-game objective text remains the authority if a later update changes a trigger.
